Rick Alexander

Rick Alexander (Melbourne, Australia) began composing for guitar in the mid-1990s and has released two CDs of his solo classical guitar pieces, the most recent of which was “Fine Light” in 2013 and since 2020 he has released several singles as a solo artist and in duo with guitarist Daniel Nístico

He has also released a CD of his songs “These Places” (2006) through the duo Zanthii Blue and several singles as a guitar soloist.

In recent years, Rick has begun composing music for ensembles. He has composed and performed classical guitar duos, trios and quartets. His work “Jade” was performed by “Victorian Guitar Orchestra” in 2018.

Rick has also composed for string quartet and classical guitar. His piece “Storming” was awarded second prize in the “2018 Matt Withers Australian Music Composition Competition” and was performed in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne in 2018 by guitarist Matt Withers and the Acacia Quartet string quartet.

“Storming” was recorded by Matt Withers and the Acacia Quartet, as well as being released on the ABC Classics label. “Storming” has also been recorded by guitarist Ben Dix (Melbourne Guitar Quartet) and the Melbourne string quartet Briar String Quartet.

Rick’s arrangement of the Irish folk song “Down by the Salley Gardens” was recorded by Scottish guitarist Matthew McAllister for YouTube in 2020.

Rick enjoys writing both solo pieces and music for various instruments. Sheet music for some of his pieces is available on his website and at sheetmusicplus.com.

He is active on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram with performances of his pieces.

Rick studies classical guitar with Ben Dix and is a member of the Victorian Guitar Orchestra.
